The new era of 5G is requiring new, smart, bandwidth hungry services at high speed. Communication Service Providers (CSPs), in order to be better prepared, they have to enrich the edge of their networks with:

  • lower latency
  • better reliability
  • advanced QoS

The edge of the network is now requiring intelligence that was only encountered in the core network. To be able to support the new services, CSPs need to transform their Cell Sites, as well as to provide advanced connectivity to their Enterprise Customers.

In Cell Sites, the presence of multiple boxes is a burden for CSPs as it implies extra costs (ownership, operation, support, power consumption, etc.). In addition, it affects the network (and offered services) with complexity, additional administration effort, increased latency, possible incompatibility and degraded overall performance.

Initially the OmniBAS™ portfolio is transformed, with IP/MPLS functionality, to an enriched series of intelligent networking products. The OmniBAS™ products supports local L3 functionality along with IP/MPLS connectivity with the core network. The new functionality renders the additional router at Cell Sites unnecessary and, in addition, CSPs can now facilitate and simplify the connectivity of enterprise customers with their networks, using the minimum possible hardware.

The new firmware is backward compatible with the legacy OmniBAS™ series, enabling CSPs - already using OmniBAS™ at the field - to keep their hardware and protect their investment. The new IP/MPLS features become readily available to the existing OmniBAS™ units with a simple software upgrade.

Additionally, the uni|MS(tm) Unified Management Suite is further enriched to visualize the new IP/MPLS functions, with end-to-end provisioning and management.
